Global Competence for the Future
More and more countries in Europe started a challenging change following the vision of a common "European Higher Education Area” which has taken on structure and shape within the scope of the Bologna process.
The internationalization of universities is a response to the challenges of globalization, and is one of the most important objectives of the Bologna Process. The key aims of the Bologna Process are directed toward the comparability of educational systems, more transparency, and verifiable educational contents, in order to establish the same standards in higher education across Europe.
The book focuses on three fundamental topics relevant to higher education with a global per-spective: Promoting mobility Enhancing quality Achieving employability How can the aims of the Bologna Process be defined within an international context that goes beyond Europe? Is it sufficient to simply promote internationality as a part of university stu-dies? Under which conditions can the increasing mobility of students, faculty and staff actual-ly lead to more quality in the higher education system, and to greater employment opportuni-ties for its graduates? How are quality standards defined at universities, and what are the re-quirements and expectations that companies and organisations place upon university gradua-tes in today’s globalized marketplace? This book is a compilation of contributions from a conference at the University of Applied Sciences Bremen, Germany in December, 2007.
